Game Developers Hate Windows 8
Good news for Van, it looks like video game developers are getting together to start an old-fashioned Witch burning aimed directly at Windows 8. It was reported earlier in the week that Gabe Newell, the man responsible for the "indie" juggernaut Valve, is very displeased with the state of Microsoft's next-gen operating system. Gabe stated, in an article published by All Things D, that Windows 8 could cause some very important manufacturers to "exit the market." He then discussed alternative platforms such as Linux. Later that day, Blizzard's Executive Vice President of Game Design tweeted that he agreed with Gabe Newell's thoughts on Windows 8, stating that it was bad news for Blizzard as well. So what does this mean to the average PC Gamer? Nothing at the moment. As Windows 8 is not yet released Microsoft could take the issues developers have and find a way to "fix" them while still branching out to that consumer base that they are currently trying to branch out to. One good thing that could come from this, however, is more creative content on OTHER platforms. Some companies, like Blizzard and Valve, are very loyal to the PC. With their loyalty questions, we could see some companies looking for a new home.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII Lives On!
Last week Kotaku reported that the Tetsuya Nomura's highly anticipated Final Fantasy Versus XIII was CANCELLED. Completely devastated, fans of the series hit the internet spreading their anger like wildfire. This week, however, Square Enix's CEO crushed the rumour in 140 characters (or less). Yoichi Wada made a tweet stating that the game was very well alive and still has weekly development meetings. He also said that fans of the series would be knocked off of their feet by the game, once they finally get to see it. Personally, I think that I will believe the CEO of Square Enix, not only because he's the freaking CEO, but because Game Director Tetsuya Nomura stated a few months ago that Versus had entered First Production. First Production is where games go to finish, not die, at Square Enix, and I highly doubt that both Tetsuya Nomura and Yoichi Wada would tell the same lie, especially when they have to please the people investing in their company. I also find it very odd that Square Enix would cancel a project that is being directed by one of the most talented individuals in the industry.

The New Xbox Dashboard Goes Public
Yesterday, if you had the luxury of being near a computer, you were able to sign up for the new Xbox Dashboard Public Beta. The Beta will include SELECT new features/tweaks announced at E3 last month. The most interesting of these features confirmed in the beta are Internet Explorer and extra dashboard customization. However, although it is "Public" users will have to sign a NDA to participate in the Beta, so we do not have any solid details on what is to be completely expected when the dashboard goes fully public this fall. To those of you who were lucky enough to get accepted into the beta, congrats! To the rest of you, I'm sure the internet will be able to give you a look at what's to come through leaks and whatnot, so keep your eyes on your favourite rumour sites!
